Miss Hepburn, she of the unforgettable voice and incomparable beauty is gone. The world is a lesser place. WW

She was indeed great and, in that irreverent spirit of hers, I must ask:

Did any of you ever see that Stand Up Special that Dana Carvey did wherin he does a long involved bit about Jimmy Stewart and Kate getting caught in a compromising position in a car on Mullholand drive by a cop? I have seen it five times and STILL nearly wet myself every time...

The punch line has him making a noise that you THINK is Jimmy trying in vain to start the car but is actually Kate getting her swerve on. Sounds dirtier than it is but is freaking hilarious.

As it is with wine, I could not come up with the best in a Hepburn movie (African Queen is at the top, though, for the incomparable synergy of she and Bogey).

But I do have a favorite Hepburn experience: seeing her on Broadway in the late nineteen seventies in a play titled A Matter of Gravity. Just going to see her in person was enough to inspire my wife to write a short piece about the experience. She submitted it to Playbill, and for the first and only time, she was published.

Kate Hepburn was one of a kind--and likely for generations to come. And like she said in her debut movie: "I am going to be a star..." a bright star, indeed.

I am also saddened by her death. My favorite movie of her's (not counting African Queen, it was a masterpiece in many ways)is Looking for Baby, I read that she did not want to do that film, thanking it was too silly, and that it was a flop at first, but later, became a classic.

She was a great beauty, inside and out.
