maintain or removing vines?

I have grape vines that were planted at least 15 years ago and never maintained. I have suckers coming up in my yard in various places. The vines originate on the state side of a fence but they have basically told me it's my problem. I have MS and therefore cannot due the pruning needed to keep these vines producing. Therefore they are just an annoyance. Is there any way I can get rid of them? Some of the vines resemble small trees. I know everyone here wants to grow vines however I thought maybe someone would be willing to help me. Thanks

Vines set rather deep roots, especially in poor soil. Their life style makes it quite difficult to get them out of the ground. The only sure way to get them out is for them either to die or be bulldozed.

Snazzy--

Head out to your local farm supplier or lawn and garden center and purchase some Round-Up (trade name). Follow the directions for use on woody plants and/or vines--you have to spray the material on green leaves as it has to be absorbed by the plant. Round-Up will kill the vines (and any most other green plants that it comes in contact with)

Perhaps, but I can show you a number of rather old rooted vines on my property that are impervious to RoundUp.

Thanks I'll try the roundup. Even if it only takes care of some of them it will be better. I can't bulldozr them. I appreciate the replies.

Grape vines impervious to Round-Up??!! --

You should call Cornell and have them get cuttings and start a research project. This could be a major break through for grape growers who have been battling weeds and at the same time concerned that the weed spray (Round-Up)will drift and kill the vines. The soy bean guys beat this by bio-engineering the soybeans to be resistant to Round-Up.

Better yet you and I can do this and make a fortune!!
