My family is breaking with tradition. Instead of spending Christmas in Iowa or Nebraska (and possibly spending a night stranded in Chicago as I did last year),we are meeting in Palm Desert. We hope to go out to dinner on Christmas Eve which may be difficult (some restaurants may not be open and others may be heavily booked). Doug Arango sounds good if open. Has anyone eaten there? Other suggestions? Any good wine shops to recommend in the area?

My geography sucks...I have not idea if its anywhere near, but I spent christmas and new year in Palm Springs about 5 years ago. I took my mother to this incredible French restaurant for new years eve dinner...It was one of the best French foods I have ever tasted in the US. I don't remember the name but I do remember that its the most expensive French restaurant in Palm Springs...still not that bad compared to Boston or DC though (~$30 entrees). Great wine list.

Blue,
Palm Springs is near Palm Desert. I will
be flying into Palm Springs and hopefully be
met there by my sister and brother-in-law with a rental car (they arrive a few hours earlier than I do).
