I would sear that the 1999 Borgogne Chardonnay La Vignee of Bouchard Pere et fils contains a significant percentage of pinot blanc but Bouchard will not reply to my enquiry. I believe AC regs permit a certain percentage of pinot blanc in Bourgogne Blanc, but my question is WHAT percentage?

Hi Gagnaire, and welcome to the Wine Board. One of my early inquiries to the Board was along these lines. All the respondents were of the mind that all varietally labeled French wine has to be 100% of that variety.

I'll have to check my references as to what other grape varieties, beyond Chardonnay, are allowed in Bourgogne Blanc AOC -- there is , of course, Bourgogne Aligote' AOC, but that's a separate Appellation for that specific grape.

In the European Union, the wine must be at least 85% of the grape variety in question for varietal labelling at the AOC/DOC level (i.e. Quality Wine Produced in a Specific Region).

Cheers,
