Can anyone tell me whether Opus One is a wine that can be aged well or if it is one that should be consumed early on? I really like Opus One and I have a bottle that I do not want to spoil. Someone told me it does not age well and that it should be consumed within a certain number of years of the vintage. Is this true and is there a general rule of thumb for knowing which wines to savor right away and which ones to hold onto for awhile before consuming? Thanks for your help!!!

Hi Lizzie and welcome to the board. Your friend is a lil' confused on the Opus. Seems like a lot of people have become experts when talking to someone about wine. Opus is accessible young , but is also structured in the better vintages to age well. Tho not one of my favorties, it is still a well-made wine. If you have good storage the Opus will age, If not drink the sucker jes' because it's Tuesday. WW

Thanks, winoweenie. Which vintages would you consider to be the better vintages of Opus One? I have some other domestic reds from a while back, do you think they shall hold up as well? I have some Jordan cabernet 1990 and some Opus One 1990 and Wild Horse 1990. Is there a rule of thumb for this, or does it depend on each wine blend? Thanks

The 90, 91 94 and 97 are all outstanding Calif vintages. Next time you're in your fav wine store, ask them for a Calif vintage chart. The price is rite...Free. WW
