It is a type of wine produced in Puglia, Italy (the boot). It is made from a blend of grapes including negrano (sp?) and primitivo (similar if not the same as Zinfandel). It's styles vary a bit but is a bit fruity and earthy. Its a great wine for hamburgers, pizza, and other tomato based sauces. Its usually inexpensive (which is very nice) and quite tastey. Some common, quality producers are Taurino and Agricole Valone (not sure if the last one is spelled correctly but will update with the proper name).

Thanks to the both of you!
I'll check out the other threads.
I like pizza, and I like wine.... sounds like a winner.

Salento is a location in Puglia where Salice Salentino is produced. The grapes are: negroamaro and malvasia nera; Primitivo is not in the classic Salice blend; that grape is mainly grown in Manduria,

Duane, we forgot to mention that you need to "Go" back a year on the Italian thread to get the full information.
