new to wines

I tried a bottle of wine at a very fancy restaurant and it was a pinot noir. It was wonderful. I need to know more about this type of wine as opposed to the others out there. also I like the wine served at the Olive Garden, I asked the server the name and he told me it was Vino Reserva and is not available to purchase. Another name I heard it called was Principatta. (sp). Could someone please help with maybe finding something real close I could purchase locally. They have an extensive wine collection at Costco which is close by. Thanks, I appreciate all the help I can get.

The principatto is something that olive garden has brewed specifically for them. Look for an inexpensive Chianti Classico. That should get you something close. If you're interested in learning about wine, Wine for Dummies is a good title. Well written with info everyone needs on wine.

Hi Rockygal and welcome to the board. Pinot is a very capricious grape that makes some of the best wines in the world and some of the worst. There are some nice inexpensive Pinots out there to cut your palate on, among which are Villa Mt. Eden and Sanford. Good luck opn your wine journey and may you never hit a bump in the road. WW

My understanding is that Principato Rosso is a product of Cavit from Italy bottled exclusively for Olive Garden.

I haven't taste that wine, but I believed that should be on the likes of Chianti or Sangiovese.
