hi, new to the board and wines in general...

i was cleaning out my grandma's house the other day and found a VERY old bottle of wine which i have a few questions about...

it happens to be a 1935 bottle of Port i think. the lable has the date of course plus Monte Cristo. also California, produced and bottled by Roma Wine Company, Inc. Lodi, CA.

the bottle is not sealed with a cork either. strangly it seems to just have a metal cap on top of the glass. it is definately sealed though, since the top of the cap budges out slightly like the contents are under pressure. are caps like this common? do they actually work?

i'm assuming the wine is QUITE bad since it is like 70 years old, although i'm curious how bad it really is, i think i am going to keep it (forever?) and just show it off as a VERY old bottle of wine.

anyone got any comments on what i've said?

Hi Ishido, and welcome to the Wine Board. What you need to do is dig a really deep hole. When you reach bedrock, don very heavy rubber gloves and a safety mask. Very carefully lay the bottle in the bottom of hole, and carefully refill it. Keep a friend or trusted relative on watch for EPA operatives.

This dude died sometime in the early 40's. Second the IK's suggestion. WW
