Educate me, please. What is this stuff? (Details, please. I know it is wine and I know it is red.)

Might it be good for quaffing on the back porch?

I am not familiar with it and have been offered some. Thanks for the info!

MrD, welcome back. In short, the wine is intended to be (in R.G.'s own words) "...a robust, multifaceted fruit bomb. The 1999 vintage was a Mickey Mantle home run - it just kept hanging and hanging in the air."

Reportedly, "the grapes for this wine come from a vineyard located just behind the California Men’s Correctional Facility, thus the Big house connotation."

IMHO, usually a decent red. At $10, you be the judge. cp

Precise explanation. Don't pair it with oysters, Maryland Crab-cakes.etc. WW

WW, I won't do that. But sounds like it might go with a hamburger or an Italian Hot Sausage smothered with caramelized onions and roasted peppers!!

PS: Thanks, CP, for the information. Maybe I'll open a bottle when we watch "OZ" on the the television........

Bought three bottles yesterday at $11.09 a bottle. For the life of me I can't figure out where the $0.09 comes from.........

Label pictures THE BIG HOUSE so it was not hard to figure out what CPURVIS was talking about.

Tried some last night with roast pork loin, carrots and rice. Quite the fruit bomb, but there was also some tannin on the finish. Will allow the other two bottles to sit around for a few days before trying it again.

Not bad, really, for an about 10 dollar drink.

Popped a bottle of the 2000 version the other night. Continues to be a delicious multi-dimentional wine for less than $10. Almost opaque dark ruby. Nose was somewhat closed, and I really wasn't paying much attention either. A combination of bright and lush flavors of raspberry, dark fruit, leather and chocolate. Balanced from the entry thru the finish, dusty tannins. Nice wine and the wife liked it. 13.5% Alc./vol.

Have enjoyed the sometimes tough guy with pizza, and oddly enough, deep fried turkey? Ouch!

Drew and crew, didja notice Randall is now making a 'Big House White' as well. Same idea as his red, only it's a SW format.
If it's as good in it's own fashion, we're set for easy-to-remember suggestions.

Popped a '99 tonight with grilled, rubbed chicken, baked taters and broccoli/asparagus salad. Similar to the 2000 but a bit more lush, imho. I like em both.
