Hello, everyone...

I am pretty ignorant when it comes to wine, but my boyfriend is a huge wine enthusiast. For Valentine's Day, I would like to surpise him with a nice bottle of wine. Maybe something rare, or different, something cool, I'm not sure how to explain what I'm looking for, I guess just something that would really blow him away. I would like to spend around $75 - $100, so if anyone knows of anything special, please let me know. Thanks for your help. Treana

Hi Treana, and welcome to the Wine Board. For $50-$75 you can get a great bottle of Champagne, real Champagne. See what your local retailer has and recommends.

Hello Treana,

Do you have any really good, upscale wine stores near you? That is the only way that you are going to get anything rare or interesting. 97' Cabs from California were wonderful if you can find any. If he likes dessert wine then get him a bottle of Ch. DYquem Sauternes. It is the best of the best. Here in Chicago it's $100 for 1/2 bottle.

Another idea, if he's into wine, is buying him Sommelier glassware from Riedel. The cabernet glasses will run you approx. $50.00 per glass! I know it sounds nuts, but once he drinks wine out of them he won't want to drink from anything else. I just did a quick search and Wine Enthusiast seems to have the best price for them.
