A New Collector Needs your HELP!

Per previous post, I'm new to the collecting game. Does anyone know of a good resource, or have any good suggestions on beginning a collection.

I'd like to start off by getting 3-4 cases of various styles to "stock" my new cellar. Then periodically add to the collection.

Problem is that I don't know how much of each wine to get. My fear is that I'll buy one or two bottles of something that I lay down for 3-4 years, then find it's wonderful and wish I had more...

How 'bout some suggestions from those of you who've had some success with different styles, vintages, etc.
