My son brought home a bottle of "Chateau Beau-Sejour Becot" from France. I don't know what kind of wine it is or whether to serve it chilled or at room tempeture. Is there someone who can tell me?

Hi Marina, and welcome! Your son brought you home a very nice bottle of wine. This is a wine that needs to develop in the bottle for at least 8 to 10 years before opening, provided you store it properly. Being that this is a red wine, you will want to serve it at room temperature when the time comes. You did not say what year is on the bottle, but anything from 1993 on back can be opened, 1994 and up put it away in a cool dark place and forget about it for a while.

Gee, hope my kids bring me home stuff like this when they get old enough! Enjoy!

Re the type of wine...

Its a fabulous St Emillion (its exact sepage breakup is: 70% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon).

I opened a bottle of the '95 a few months back not being as patient as I would like. It was fabulous, but as expected, was way too young. It was however still VERY enjoyable. I would have to agree that this wine deserves to be put in a nice cold dark cellar and left for 10 yrs....however, between a warm house/appartment for 5 years and a wonderful evening now, I would suggest the latter....So when you drink it probably will have most to do with the conditions in which you could store this wine, as well obviously as its vintage.
