Cabernet Recommendations

Hi,

New wine drinker, would like some recommendations on Cabernet's. I have tried a few and my favoite so far is J Lohr (2003). Any insight would be appreciated

That is a large window you just opened. Are you looking at a particular price, region, style? I would suggest trying to find a St. Francis cab they are usually good and about $16, or Joel Gott $16 is very good but may be hard to find. If you can answer those first questions I and others may have more insite. Also check out the cab thread and go back a bit and you can find the wines people have liked.

Hi Dano, Welcome!

I assume you don't want to spend big bucks since you are new, so here's a list of inexpensive (under $20) but good cabs:

J. Lohr
Hess
Robert Mondavi
Sterling
Avalon
Liberty School
Scenario
Sebastiani (has a lot of oak)
Rodney Strong (again with the oak)

...and there are a lot of others. You might also just look for areas, like Napa, Stags Leap, Russian River, Guenoc, and Sonoma.

I was recently given a bottle of Cabernet Sovignon (Chateau de Michele 2003) as a gift and I really liked it a lot. I know very little about wines, but I would recommend this one.

Welcome to the board and to world of wine drinking. You have already recieved replys with many great wines listed and I hope you take the time to try them and to enjoy them.

One great way to find great inexpensive wines is to study current or past issues of publications such as Wine Spectator or Wine and Spirits. They always have a section with good value and exceptional value wines listed
that retail for the most part under $15.00.

As your taste develops and your pocket book dictates than try some of the moderate priced wines.

Wine Drinking is all about having fun and sharing with friends.

I recently tried a 2002 Cab from Chateau Souverain. It's a bit pricey for your "everyday" wine ($16-20), but it's now one of my favorites. Cheers.
