HELP!!!!

I am much less than a novice - I know nothing about wines, I thought, what could be a better place than this to ask my question. I need to buy my boss a red or white dry wine. He is verrrrry paticular and fussy about his wines. I could really use a few suggestions on what is available for around $25 to $30. Thanks in advance if anyone can help. Dee

Let me be the first one to jump on in with MY 2-cents worth (otherwise, I'll get trampled in the impending melee by my esteemed colleagues [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb/smile.gif[/img]!)

If your boss knows good wine, then he'd certainly appreciate a good Zinfandel from Ridge winery. I would recommend the 1997 Sonoma County Geyserville.

And while we're all gathered here, let me just say welcome, you've picked a great place to start learning about wine! Don't be a stranger to the site...and hopefully we'll be able to talk you into trying some great wines yourself!

Dee...You've got one thing definitely going for you...I see you're in Orange County, CA, site of numerous really fine wine shops...my two favorites being The Wine Club in Santa Ana and Hi Time Gourmet in Costa Mesa.

Do a little fishing with someone who knows your boss's taste (does he prefer red, white...California, FRance, Italy?) then take your budget into either store, tell them it's for gift and accept their guidance.

Thanks so much for your help. As suggested, I went to Hi Time, the clerk was very helpful. Since my boss likes Italian food we went with Fontodi Chianti Classico 1997. Thanks again!
