Am very impressed by new info on health benefits of resveratrol - the antioxidant substance found in red wine. A recent study by the NIH and NC chapter of the AHA found that "muscadine wines contain up to 7 times more resveratrol than regular wines."

My questions are: what is a muscadine wine and what are some good ones that might be recommended? Any helpful info would be appreciated as am new at this.

Thank you.

Sonningale, welcome to this board.
Follow this link of the North Carolina State University extension service to learn about the grape, history, types, and growing information. I've not had wine from this grape, to my knowledge, so I can't help you in locating retail wines, but most likely you'll find wines made from this grape produced in the Southeastern part of this country.

I would like to see a source to that study. It sounds exaggerated. Sources that I have read show that only if the seeds are crushed and used is there an increased amount of resveratrol.
