Dangers in mixing red and white wine

I have heard and read it been claimed that drinking white wine and red wine at the same session, could or even should have negative consequences. It has, however, never had any negative effects on me. Thus I wonder; is there any truth behind the statement that mixing red and white wine is Bad, and if so, why?

Hi Anders Benke, and welcome to the Wine Board. If any of the reports you've heard are posted on the internet, we'd be glad to see them. The only reason I can think of, I'm not the doctor or physiologist, is that white wine seems to get you higher than a red wine of the same alcoholic strength faster than red wine. The answer would then be, that if you are primarily a red wine drinker, if you mix them, you will get higher faster. As far as the effects on one internally, haven't got any idea.

What you have been told is nonsense. Cut yourself off from the place where you get such ridiculous information, and whenever anyone gives you such junk ask for the science behind it.

Well, cutting myself off the source could be a tad bit difficult, since it's a rather popular (mis)conception here in Sweden [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb2/smile.gif[/img].

My own theory, btw, is that in mixing red and white wines, there is simply usually more bottles being drunk from and thus more alcohol. Thus the myth is born.

It comes from my own experiance. Maybe because I tend to drink it faster, and without much food.
