info on a strange white wine

I don't know too much about wine, hopefully someone can help me with this question. My brother gave me a bottle of white wine and I can't get any info on it. I asked my brother he knows nothing either, he can't even remember why he had it. It says Etna Bianco and Murgo on the front label. Vintage is 1996. The back label says dry white wine and that it was bottled in Italy. Would anyone be able to tell me if this is a decent bottle of wine? Is this something I should be embarrased to have or could I bring it out to share with friends? I prefer red wine, especially cabernet sauvignon. Would this mystery wine be something I might like? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Nina, and welcome to the Wine Board. Our resident Italian Wine expert is on vacation, but I can tell you that it would be close to a miracle for any Italian White to survive for six years. Would try it by oneself with some Italian shell fish with something in reserve just in case.

We had an Etna Rosso in the shop, but it sold out fairly qyuickly. It's a wine from the Etna region in Sicily. Yours is white and at six years may be nearing the end of its life span.
