Hello all,

Just a broad question. I understand that some reds are ready to drink straight from the bottle whereas others need a little aeration. My question is: which reds are supposed to be decanted and which are not?

Thanks!

We decant all reds except Beaujolais-Villages and those lighter. Most others benefit from aeration, and aged out ones and some younger ones need it because of sediment.

Izzy,
I personally Decant all reds. Even reds that do not have much sediment in them. It still allows them to aerate and breathe. Be careful though because the longer aged reds can become fragile and can not be preserved long after decanting, so drink them immediately unless they are young.

So... if it hits the belly of the decanter, then it should hit the belly of the decantee! Ya, ya! WP
