Hi everyone!

I was wondering if you could help me out... you know how there's that saying how wine tastes better with age? Well, it is almost a year since my bf and I have been together, and for our one year anniversary, I would like to get him a year 2000 wine, but one that would age well, and does not have to be drunk soon. I'm hoping to keep the wine as is for at least another 3-4 years. Is this possible? And if it is, any suggestions on what's a good one to get? Preferably red wine....

Thanks so much for your help!

Hi IG . You're a little early for the top 2000 releases. Normally wines are released 2 to 4 years after the vintage. I'd suggest you go to one of your favorite wine shops and see what they have coming in out of the 2000 Bordeaux futures. By all accounts a great vintage and the top 2nd and 3rd tier wines are priced right. If you dont find something there, the 2000 California Cabs will start debuting next March and April. Good Luck. Try Bel-Air/2020 wine merchants in west LA ph 310-447-2020. They have a tremendous selection. WW

Agree with WW 100%, and have invested in some 2000 Bordeaux futures too. However, this is risky business, and even if everything works out fine (as I dearly hope) it will be ten years before you can drink them.

For something that you can buy right now, that will last 3 or 4 years, highly recommend one of the Cru Beaujolais. The 2000 Georges Duboeuf, Jean Descombes, Morgon is a wonderful wine that will just get better. There are many others. Talk to the folks that WW recommended.

Just remember that Cru Beaujolais do not have the word Beaujolais anywhere on the label. They have names like Morgon, Moulin A Vent, Julienas, and Fleurie.

Not to mention a decent Chiroubles or Brouilly or Cotes d'Brouilly or Regnie or Chenas.
