Zin

Just had my first glas of a zin. Fetzer 2003, think i'm in love any suggestions on what zin to compare this too I am guessing the one I have is average again since im new gauging on it's rating of 79 WS but I think so far the zin now replaces shiraz as my wine of choice

I really don't like dumping on wine selections, but Fetzer would not be a Zin I would point someone to who wanted to get in to the variety. A few wineries make a sort of generic Zinfandel that are all quite nice. Try these - Cline California Zin, Rosenblum Vintners Cuvee, Ravenswood Vintners Blend, Renwood Sierra Series and others. They're all about $10, and all are much more representative of a really nice Zin.

Exactly,Earlier I kinda got ripped for comparing a good pinot to a not so good based on ratings.Although I am new to wine I am not new to life and if price and ratings meant everything then there would be no need for this forum. So I no from this that I like zin and as my palate grows perhaps fetzer will no longer be a choice for me but it works right now and I will be shopping for different zins real soon. I've seen this hundreds of times newtoonie:

a person starts with easy, softer to drink wines and then gradually begins to look for more intricate, complicated wines. It's a general pattern of the palate educating itself--the best way.

Drew, kinda got ripped meant I was given advice to try something but there was no mention of the regions. It's hard through forums to sometimes type your point. I strongly dislike Fetzer, as well. Overpriced even at $4.99.

The "regular" PA stores need ripping but will try out the "high end" stores and post my impressions. Obviously more than me ripped as they created premium and chairmans selection stores.

Well I have finally gotten around to my next shot at Zin. Could only find the Cline that was mentioned. It's been a while since the Feltzer bottle but this has a longer finish. I think the zin is what my palate likes right now. I enjoy the fruit and caramel, but the whites seem to be too fruity so i think i have found a happy medium. I was checking the zin board noticed a Moshin zin wasn't able to find it what is the price range for this

The Moshin Bowmans Vineyard Zin is gonna be tough to find due to limited distribution and production amount but retails around $20. I have a little over a case of two vintages that I bought in Belair, Maryland. Try to find some Rosenblum, Rabbit Ridge "Westside (Gold label), Buehler, Sin Zin, Cardinal Zin, Peachy Canyon, EOS, Dry Creek, Campus Hills, as well as Cline single vineyard bottlings. Most can be found between $15 and $25.

I agree with the Peachy Canyon Zin and their Incredible Red, which is a blend of Zin and other reds. It has become a house brand for us, something we can grab and pour without being disappointed. Although as most Californian wines, it does differ from year to year and this is especially noticeable when you reach for the second bottle and find it is an o4 rather than the 03 you poured the first glass from. Oh well, it was just family and they are forgiving.
