Hi Ida, and welcome to the Wine Board. There are no stupid questions around here. For a white wine you might look for one called Gewurztraminer. It is grown and vinted in both Europe and North American.

For a red wine, and most of the Indian Food we've had calls for a red we usually reach for a Zinfandel. Talking about a Red Zinfandel NOT a White Zinfandel.

Cheers and ta.

I love indian food, especially with the amount that I see in London, I eat it three times a week! I agree that the vast majority, due to the spices, or because of vegetarian dishes such as Saag Paneer, etc, are a better pair with white wines like Gwertztraminer, Rieslings, and slightly sweet chenin blancs.

Reds work for certain dishs as well, like the grilled meats, Zins, and also Syrahs work. There is an Indian winery called Sula that makes wine in India It is interesting but certainly you do not need to look for an indian wine to mach indian food.

Ida lives in India so may not find Zinfandel wines available but should be able to find some Syrah.
