Hi,

My husband and I just bought a pretty cheap bottle of wine, and when we opened it, it started fizzing. Now, as it sits and airs out, it periodically fizzes up and goes back down. We don't have any other wine in the house and it's too late to buy another bottle (places are closed tonight).

Do you know if this fizzing is a sign that the wine has turned? It doesn't smell particularly funny.

Or is this normal, and this is just some sort of carbonated wine (unlikely, b/c it's just a regular bottle).

If you have any advice, we'd love it- thanks!

If the wine is truly a still wine, then there definitely shouldn't be any fizzing. However, you don't say what the wine is, so we can't really say for certain. A Moscato d'Asti is a nice, inexpensive wine from Italy that comes in a regular bottle, but it's supposed to fizz.
