Hi all. I have a quick question. My fiancee and I have recently begun to try to become accustomed to drinking wine. Neither of us have any concrete preferences or dislikes for any type of wine so far. As you all know, Valentine's Day is coming up and I'd like to surprise him with a great tasting wine that will set the mood for a romantic evening. We are going out to eat, so this wine does not have to go with food; it would be better if it could stand alone. Any suggestions??

Any $30-$40 Champagne will do just fine. But be sure it's ice cold, and you've already let the dog out, turned on the outside lights, locked the car, and whatever else you do to close up at the end of the day, 'cause you won't have time for any of that when the bubbly start flowing.

I would suggest the 1998 Iron Horse Wedding Cuvee. A very nice, easy to drink Blanc de Noir Sparkling wine from one of the better producers of sparklers in California.

Since your posting gives no information on your locality, I can't point you toward a source. However there is a locator at the Iron Horse Web Site:

Pol Roger NV Brut is another widely distributed, lovely champagne that is in your price range.

You should also go to the champagne thread and look back as far as you wish to and see some other suggestions.
