Need some help please

I found a bottle of German rhine wine 1969 I can not even make out the all the letters on the bottle here is a few of them.(Liebfraumird) I cant say these are all right. What is it? Is it any good and what should I do with it?

The word is Liebfraumilch. That was an extremely popular wine for the masses in the 60's. It was a cheap wine from Germany made primarily from the Riesling grape. There are many, many good German Rieslings on the market now that are so much better than the old Liebfraumilch. The only value your bottle has now is the recycle value of the glass.

KC, my information has it that those Liebfraumilch's contained little or no Riesling, but they managed to give the grape a bad name nonetheless.

I think it was Mueller Thurgau (sp), which at the time was the most widely planted grape in Germany.

No matter which grape it was....it's no good. Throw it away.

The stuff was no good in 1969, but we didn't know that then...

So glad to hear others say that Liebfraumilch was nasty stuff. It was one of the first wines I'd ever tried in college and I thought it was pretty awful. It took me twenty years to give another German wine a try!

Foodie -

I thought the grapes were Riesling, Muller Thurgau, Silvaner and sometimes Kerner - plus some additional sugar. Then, too, Muller Thurgau is a cross of Riesling and some other grape (I forget which). Regardless, it's a cheap, sweet wine.

M-T is cross between Riesling and Sylvaner.
