ive been reading numerous posts that talk about 'tiers' of wines. i'm assuming that this is a 'formal' wine tasting term.

could someone provide a quick and concise explaination please?

Thanks

Hi Juice and welcome to the Wine Board. There are many definitions and uses of the term "tier." The most common refers to different levels of price or quality. As you might guess tiers start from the bottom and go up. When it comes to price, tiers are also referred to as price points. A large company may have more than one set of tiers of quality. For example Gallo Brothers have tiers of domestic wine (Livingston Cellers, Turining Leaf, etc.) and tiers of Italian wine they produce and import (Bella Sera, Ecco Domani).
