I'm looking to purchase a bottle of wine to celebrate my Girlfriends 21st bday. Frankly I know nothing about wine. Neither her nor I are really much of drinkers and neither of us has ever drank wine. Do you all have any suggestions as to brand and color?

Hi Acm and welcome to the wine board.

My reccomendation is to not confuse price with quality. There are lots of quality wines at inexpensive prices. You can get a good wines for less than $15 (and you don't even need to go that high).

If you have a store nearby that has free tasting on the weekends, stop by there and try a couple. It will help figure out what you like. Tastes are so subjective that what one person likes, another may not (and vice-versa).

Do something fun and inexpensive like a bottle of Prosecco (Italian sparkling)with strawberries and chocolate. The alcohol is low, has a nice fizz and sweetness and you're not jumping in the deep end of wine celebrating an important event where you could easily be disappointed. After which take Pinotenvy's suggestion and go to a store's tasting when there's no pressure of a birthday celebration.
