Screwtops?

Given that it is contact with oxygen that will degrade the quality of an open bottle, are any producers contemplating/experimenting with alternative bottle and stopper designs? It seems widely accepted that the pump gadgets aren't worth much; would a screwtop be more effective than a cork or rubber stopper (ignoring aesthetics)?
