Often on this forum, people new to wine and looking for something sweet are advised to try Riunite. My friend, who is a beer drinker, told me to buy some wine so he could try it. A major concession since he always hates everything I like. He said he would like it sweet. So I got some Riunite and shared it with him over the beautiful pot roast dinner I cooked him on Saturday. He loved it...I couldn't drink it...way too sweet for me nowadays. I used to like the sweet stuff, too. It's true that one graduates from that after awhile. I'll keep working on him.

Another one he might like (pre- and maybe even post-graduation) is the Banfi Brachetto d'Acqui Rosa Regale, a sparkling red wine that tastes like strawberries and raspberries. Try it with a chocolate dessert or just some dark chocolate candy.

At my fundraiser at church I was surprised that one lady found even the Saintsbury Garnet Pinot Noir too tart for her taste (although she did like a Tavel Rose' I had given her). I should have included some of the Rosa Regale in the tasting. Next time.

We have a few wines at the shop from Georgia (the country, not the state) that are labelled as semi-sweet. Incredibly, there's decent traffic in them, mainly among the sizeable Russian emigre population locally, but also with a lot of people who want sweeter wines, but are tired of Riunite. See if any Georgian wines are available local to you, Georgie, and have your friend give one a try.

I have tried the Rosa Regale. I loved it! The one I tried was white. I haven't seen a red at the store I shop. It was actually what startd me on this fun little journey of wine and food pairings. ((I am a chocolate freak as well,,LOL))! I am having a ball!
