Hey guys,I thought this was a good place as any for recommendations on wineries. I'll be going out there the second week of September and will be in town at least 3 days. Time is limited so I want to spend a day at the wineries but have no idea where I should go. Can anyone help me? Should I go to Napa? Sonoma? Yor help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks-Tom

The easiest region to get to is Livermore Valley, just 40 miles east of SF. Check out their site at: http://www.wines.com/livermore/lvmrmemb.html

Tom1960, welcome to the board. You can get to Napa probably as fast as Livermeore and you'll certainly see more wineries in one day of touring hiway 29 than anywhere in this country. Depending on where you're staying you can either take 101 across the Golden Gate or hiway 80 to the Napa turnoff. Once you get in the Valley head north on 29 and the rest is up to you. The turnoffs are well marked on both highways. If you stay in SF then 101 is best. If you stay across the bridge in Oakland 80 be the ticket. It's about 53 miles to Napa. Have fun, drink lots of juice, and stay outta' jail. WW

Excellent! I'm really getting excited about the trip and I'm sure I'll have a great time. Will be staying in San Francisco at least the first 2 days, after that who knows. Maybe I can find a place to stay not far from the wineries.
