I have a case of Glasscock Vineyards Chenin Blanc. The case has not been opened and the date of bottling is on the case. The date is March 7,1981. The vintage on the label is 1982. The bottles have been stored cork down. The wine has not exposed to sunlight or too any extreme temperatures.
Glasscock Vineyard was located in Jeff Davis County, Texas. My understanding Glasscock is the first vineyard to go bankrupt since prohibition.
Could someone supply me with an estimated value?

Hi Barrick, and welcome to the Wine Board. I'm a big fan of chenin blanc, in all its trappings. With the exceptiong of the so called late harvest versions from the Loire Valley of France and and maybe a couple from California and the Northwest, wines from chenin blanc do not have long holding ability. There are few reds from '82 that are still holding up. I'm afraid your wine has no value.

If the bottling date is in 1981, the vintage can't be 1982. The vintage date is the year the grapes were harvested. So, if the bottling date is really March 7, 1981, then the grapes were harvested in 1980, and that is a Texas Chenin Blanc that's way to old to drink - by about 20 years.
