So we recently unearthed a 1961 Barolo in a basement - lying on its side, wax seal over the cork still unbroken, looks to be in good shape. It's probably still okay to drink, right? And is it past the age where it will continue to improve?

Details: 1961 Cascina La Marenca - Marchese Villadoria - Barolo Riserva Speciale

As a curiosity (we plan to drink it, not sell it) what do you figure a bottle like this is worth?

Here's some pictures:

Thanks!

It might still be drinkable since Barolo is a long-aging wine. No guarantees. I don't think it would have much monetary value as single bottles don't sell well to collectors (usually they buy by the case) and it wasn't stored in a wine cellar as such. Also, the age makes it risky as to drinkability. Suggest opening it up and trying and having a backup bottle in case it is over-the-hill. Maybe you know someone born in 1961 to share it with.
