...to these boards, but have been fanatical about wine for the last couple of years. This seems like a great place to hang out and chat about my No.1 hobby. Anyone here from the UK? Most of you seem to hail from the USA (no bad thing!).

Anyone from the UK, say "aye!"

Not from the UK, but welcome to the boards. We like new perspectives. Occasionally Tom Stevenson hangs out here - noted wine writer from the UK.

Never heard of Tom Stevenson, I'm ashamed to say. What magazine/newspaper does he write for? I subscribe to "Wine" magazine; as far as I know he's never written any articles for them. From "Decanter", perhaps?

Thanks for the welcome, Bucko!

Stevenson's most recent title is World Encyclopedia of Champagne & Sparkling wine.

Bizarre - I nearly bought that very same title a few weeks ago (Encyclopedia of Champagne). Obviously didn't make a close enough note of the name. Thanks for the info.

Hi Tabby
I do hang around here when I can, but I've been pretty busy of late (and too embarrassed to apologise to Bucko for not looking him up as promised when I passed through Seattle recently). You've got the gist of what I do from others above, ie., more books than articles. I note that you read WINE magazine. I had a regular column in WINE called 'Fizz File' for seven years. It came to an end when I called the publisher a wimp! I write occasionally for Decanter and I'm the only non-French regular contributor to La Revue du Champagne, but my life is so bound by longterm book research that I cannot involve my in freelance activities unless they are scheduled in advance.
Enough of me. You originally asked about Brits on the Wine Board. Well, there's also JoeSchmoe, who is a buyer at Waitrose and currently awaiting his MW results, not to mention being a truly nice guy. But Brits or no Brits, I can tell you that I've surfed around and this is the best wine forum on the Internet. Another excellent one is Wine Lovers, but the Wine Board tends to attract a more irreverent bunch, which suits me. As for any other wine forums, forget it. Hope you stick around as much as I would like to.

Tom, pleased to "meet" you! Your column for Wine must have been a few years ago.

I too looked around a few wine forums before discovering this one; it certainly does seem to be the best.

Hi Tabby. Good to know that there are other newbies out there. I see your wine experience exceeds mine, but I hope to catch up a.s.a.p. Hope to speak to you in the future.

Douglas

Hello there Doug. Good to see I'm not the only newbie scrabbling around at the moment! This is a really friendly board; I like it here.
