Hi Jon, and welcome to the Wine Board. A nice Bordeaux to jump into the game with is Chateau Les Fiefs de Lagrange. It runs around $15, and is the second label of Chateau Lagrange in St Julien. I have found it reliable year in and year out. It does need about five or six years of age to reach it's potential. The 1999s are on the market right now. If you don't want to wait until '04 or '05 to drink it, remove cork and decant it, and put the decanter on your dinning room table four or five hours before dinner. It should be fine, but not as good as it would be in a couple of years in the rack.

You can find ready to drink Bordeaux. It is usually priced below $12. There are hundreds if not thousands of different bottlings, with different ones available in different parts of the country. So it is trial and error. Look for a tighter appellation than Appellation Bordeaux Controlee, such as Appellation Haut Medoc Controlee.

Another Bordeaux at $12 is La Cardonne. It is not a mind-blower but it delivers honest flavors at a killer price.
