Hi there
I am really new to wines. I have only tried a couple. I am trying to acquire a taste for red wines, so far I have been buying chianti.
The one that I bought today is Fattoria Selvapiana Chianti Rufina Vendemmia 2000. the white I bought is Dry Creek Vineyard 2001 Clarksburg Dry Chenin Blanc.

I don't like wines that are too dry. I also like Rieslings, but have not bought any recently, but will probably do so tomorrow.

I am hoping to learn a great deal about wines from this site. This place I bought the wines from today actually keep a log of what each customer buys, which is nice.

Is there an easy way to get the labels off so that I can keep them for future reference or is that just a terrible idea.

thanks in advance

Tk

Hi Tkeitt, and welcome to the Wine Board. For a newcomer to wine you are proceeding on an intelligent tract. It is excellent that you retailer is keeping a record. Video stores have done this for years.

It is very difficult to get labels off of bottles these days. You can keep a simple recond on your WP. You don't need a fancy winecellar program at this point. If, your retailer gives a periodic printout, you could annotate it, and keep the record, or scan it into the puter. It is better to record impressions soon after tasting the wine, so I think setting up a simple record on WP is the best option.

Tkeitt, there are numerous reds that cellar well, & the occasional odd Italian white, etc. However, don't worry 'bout aging wines at this point...just buy, drink, enjoy, learn & ask more questions.

Also, buy the book 'Wine for Dummies'...unfortunate title, but you will find it very helpful for the basics & more.

thanks a great deal for such a quick reply. I am not so worried about buying wines that i need to age, I just don't want to buy anything thing to drink now that needs to be aged. Maybe it is not that easy.

I did get Wine for Dummies from the library, and just bought Teach Yourself Wine Appreciation. Thanks again for the info.

I am excited about learning more and more.
