What type of glass should I be drinking Trockenberenauslese from? In Germany we drank out of cups (there was a notable lack of sophistication as I was a student).
Also, are TBA's and Eisweins esentially the whitewine and German/Austrian equivalent of a Port? I understand that both are developed per the noble rot and long seasons.

Hello UTLAW,

As for the glasses, I don't know what to tell you. It all tastes the same to me.

Port, Trockenbeerenauslese, and Eiswein are similar in that they are all high in alcohol content, but they are so by 3 different means... TBA and Eiswein alcohol comes from the high amounts of sugar present in the grapes used (because of extended time on the vines with TBAs and a freeze in the case of Eiswein). Port, on the other hand, gets most of its alcohol from the brandy that's added to it. Port is known as a "fortified wine". Hope this helps. Others here can give you more details and suggest website references on the subject if you want them.

Welcome,
DM

Go to http://www.riedelcrystal.com/index.htm

Riedel recommends Sautern glasses.
