so, i have a recipe for pork chops. it calls for port wine in the sauce. if i didn't have time to go back to the store, what would be a good substitute?

Welcome to the board Scarlet. If you have another fortified winen such as Madeira or Sherry, go with that. Otherwise any red wine you can spare.

I've always leaned toward port and sherry for cooking wines. But like the previous entry stated, any fortified wine will do.

Think of the wine you would like to drink when you serve your pork chops.

Use that wine to cook with also!!
