Wine served still fermenting, is this right?

For the first time in my life I asked for a bottle of wine to be changed. It tasted fine on the first sip but then it became obvious that it was still fermenting. It was a red australian cabernet sauvignon. The posh restaurant, richard bransons Babylon, refused to change it and told us that it was the style of the wine that it should continue to ferment. It tasted dreadful. Is this really a genuine style of fine wine?

Are you SURE it was not a SPARKLING Shiraz which are all the rage down under???

If so they should have DOUBLE CHECKED with you to make sure you knew what you were ordering...

Hi Richardstern and welcome to the board. If you put this on a credit card I'd contact the issuer immediately and contest this charge. You should have told the waiter where to stuff it and see if it tickeled. WW
