Buying Bordeaux Futures

I've been reading so much about the Bordeaux 2005 Vintage that all of a sudden I was thinking about the wine futures. So I have a couple of questions on this.

Are all futures that you can buy for the expensive wines? Or can you find decent prices for not so popular wines? Where can I find prices for wine futures?

Hi Jv. Go to your nearest good wine shop. They will probably have a list of their offerings. I just ordered my first case of a petite chateau. All of the offerings are placed on futures when the shops get allocations from their respective negotiants or importers. I use 2 outside stores, Vintage Wines in San Diego and Hi Time Cellars in Costa Mesa besides my local pusher. WW

Try going here. They have lots of smaller Bordeaux wineries with pricing for the 05'.

Just a slightly different perspective here....as I am new to wine and have only been purchasing for a few years. As such my cellar is not falling over themselves with wine and I could use a bit more vintage range.

I do get a few cases of the current release on futures for wines that I know I want. Then I wait until they come out to see if I want more. The amount of that release I buy depends on the quality and the price. For the 2005's which are going to come out very high, I may just think about buying another case of 2000 or 1996 or maybe even asking around for a 1990 for a 1982. For First growth prices, expect this time to be around $6000 per case. Second growths are around $2000-$1000 and then down. For those prices I can get very established wines for about the same price or less.

I have a limited budget for wine and can't order whatever I want, but also looking to manage what I want in my cellar and for the last year, all I've really been doing is filling in with 90's, 95's and 96's (and a few early than that) as they come up and I can afford them.

Thanks for the reply, I did have a conversation with my pusher... and I understand between the lines "I order the futures you buy wine from me..." I looked at the site that was recomended and I have a question. The estimated prices said something like 150-300, did that means that the case will be between those two pricess and will not go below or over that price? I saw some second growth between 150 and 250, and some of them 91-94 so those prices are not bad, me think.

Wines like the 2004 Chateau Pontet-Canet and Chateau Pavie-Maquin are available at not too ghastly a price. I don't know how much more the 2005 vintage might cost however. I recently took home my six bottles of 2000 Chateau Latour-Figeac (I already had some other 2000 Bordeaux, mostly from Pomerol or St. Emilion but a few from Pauillac). I will probably open one sometime next month to see how it is progressing and then maybe one a year until they are gone.
