I have had a passion for red wine for quite sometime but I wanted to "expand my horizons" and start trying some of the white wines. However, I am not a big fan of Chardonnay...can anyone suggest a good white wine for me to try? I drink wine usually on a daily basis with meals, so my price range would be around the $10 and under mark. Thanks!

There are some many to choose from. Try a White Merlot. It is excellent, and might be a familiar place to start. For something more radical try Pinot Gris/Grigio. They are excellent also.
Let me know what you think.

Thanks! I looked for the White Merlot but couldn't find it...so I went with a Bordeaux Blanc which was quite good. I was also able to pick up the Pinot Grigio which I will be trying this weekend.

There are 2 kinds I have tried. One is from Israel from Carmel. Another is French from Fortrant. Both are Excellent. There is also one from Zonin(Itialian). You may find them at WWW.POPSWINES.COM. Let me know what you think. It is sort of a blush color, but it is concidered a white, and has many properties of a white.

I didn't want to say anything, in case someone actually knows of a "White Merlot" made in California. Because I don't. However, Sutter Home does make a "Merlot Rose" -- which some people might classify as a "blush" wine (although it is emphatically pink, rather than a pale or blushing pink) -- and it's a delightfully easy drinking wine. Off-dry, plump in fruitiness and super reasonably priced (below $7 retail).

Don't know of any White Merlots currently being produced, but there will be come in the next couple of years what with all the Merlot plantings from Bakersfield to Ukiah. R&J Cook used to make one eons ago (think taste similar to White Zinfandel)..and like other "white" wines made from red grapes the class is generally produced with considerable residual sugar.

If saucy liked Bordeaux Blanc...he/she should check out Sauvignon Blancs...three of my current favorites all come from Sonoma...Geyser Peak, Simi and Ch. Souverain.

Also try Chappellet's "Old Vine Cuvee," a barrel-fermented Chenin Blanc from 40+ year old vines.

And don't overlook some good Gewurztraminers...Thomas Fogarty is one I'm especially fond of....and Louis Martini (easier to find) is killer.
