I am going to be in the Eastern Long Island area during Labor Day weekend and I’ve heard the vineyards out there offer some very interesting selections. Can anyone suggest a place worth visiting? I am not a Merlot fan, so I would be looking for a red with less "pop appeal."

One non-pop wine that Eastern L.I. does well with in cabernet franc. Some to choose from include Gristina, Osprey's Dominion, Paumanok, and Schneider.

You might also look under New York wines category further down the Wine Board listings. And check out www.newyorkwines.org, click on Wine Country, and then on Long Island for a list of websites for Long Island wineries.

I have nothing to add to the above recommendations. Unlike some rattling ramblers, I knows when to shut up--sometimes...
