Well I was going to post this under the Merlot Thread, but I thought that this is a good wine for a novice looking for a somewhat sweet red wine.

2003 Gumdale Merlot, 13.5% Alc. $5 or $6 at Total Wine.

This is not a complex wine by far. Taste of berrys and chocolate. It has almost a Port feel to it in your mouth. A little bit of tannens that give a tinge of drying accross the gums, but very litte. A nice wine to sip on a friday night. Hey! My wife even liked it, and she is not a red wine drinker.
