Hi,

I have Decided to try and learn the ins and outs of fine wine-,.

the problem is i have a very Delicate stomach.when i drink wine that my wife is drinking i usualy get a burning type Hartburn feeling and have to stop...my wife usualy drinks a Chardney nothing expensive.

so my question is,"what kind of wine would you Suggest that is easy on the stomach(im guessing it has to do with the acidity??iv picked up a cold unit to store the wine at it`s proper temp...

so far iv picked up the following-

2003 Kim Crawford
2002 Rosemount
Hardys Whiskers Blake Tawny Port
California Party Pack(wine.com)

Hi Freddy, and welcome to the Wine Board. I would guess you need low acid wines too, based on what you posted. Chardonnay is usually consider a low acid wine, so am somewhat unsure what kind of advice to give. Other than the Hardy's Port (a wise selection), can't tell what kind of wines you have bought. Which Kim Crawford? Which Rosemount (there are dozens), and what is in the California Party Pack? If you can provide that information, we can comment on the relative acidity.

2003 Kim Crawford sauvignon Blanc
2002 Rosemount hill of gold(Mudgee Shiraz)

6 bottle Party pack includes the following-recipe cards to match each of the wines, a corkscrew, and a delightful CD of smooth jazz favorites.(just figured this would be a nice gift for the misses and a good way for me to sample some different California wines.

Rancho Zabaco Dancing Bull Zinfandel
Gallo of Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon
Turning Leaf Coastal Reserve Pinot Noir
Louis Martini Chardonnay
Anapamu Dry Riesling
Indigo Hills Merlot

One thing to keep in mind, when iv had wine in the past,im sure it was the House Bar brand that was not properly chilled.(making it tough on my stomach.

The sauvignon blanc, riesling, and pinot noir are all high in acidity. The others are all relatively low. All are good wines with the exception of the Turning Leaf. The chardonnay is an oak bomb, something else to consider as a problem. The one your wife had probably was one too. Incidentally if that was the only wine to affect you that way, it could very well have been an isolated case.

Most New World (regions outside of Western Europe) chardonnays, in an effort to emmulate the finest White Burgundys, have been exposed to too much oak either in new oak barrel aging for the more expensive ones, or simply enfused with toasted oak sawdust. Chardonnay does not have a monopoly on the term, but does have the highest percentage of oak bombs.

Just a thought...were you munching on something with the Chard that may have caused your discomfort, rather than the wine?

I suffer from acid reflux and found that it used to interfere with my enjoyment of wines as well as many foods. My case was of enough severity that I was put on Prilosec and now enjoy wines without the heartburn sensation. Assuming that your heartburn is not a severe acid reflux disease, you might be able to take a couple Tums to alleviate distress when planning to have wine with a meal.

Wouldn't the high acid in some of those Chards also be a culprit.

thanks everyone!

iv got some bottles that were suggested in other threads to try!

i think part of the problem might have been cheap bar wine(house brand).i do however like that Tums Idea!my Spiegelau glasses have shipped,!and my small collection will be nice and chilled.

anymore suggestions fire away as iv found a great wine store with huge selection just a couple miles away!plan on making a run Friday.
