A friend of mine said she was allergic to sulfites and asked if I knew of any wines without them. Still a novice, this is a new one for me. Can anyone recommend any wines that DO NOT contain sulfites?

Thanks!!!

This question has been asked many times, including by yours truly. I did a search for you and found just one of several discussions on sulfites/histamine allergies. Here's one that will help to answer your question. Bucko, our resident physician, does an excellent job of answering this. You can bank on what he tells you.

Thanks a bunch Georgie!! The link you sent me was very informative. I'm not sure what symptoms my friend was experiencing, but I am sure after reading this it'll clear up whatever questions she may have. I'll also pass on the word that she could bank on our resident physician - bucko

Bucko, a little inside humor for you:

A winemaker's daughter recently got in my face when I challenged her on her assertion that her wines had "NO sulfites". What it boiled down to was that the sulfites measured less than the USDA standard which was measured in parts per million and the standard was, let's say, 20 ppm. I reminded her that some drugs are dosed in milligrams, some in micrograms and some horrible toxins (Riacin for example) in nanograms and that if she drank a glass that contained 19 parts per million of THC (the active ingredient in Marijuana), she would feel no effect but if it contained the same amount of LSD or STP she would be tripping her little brains out but the solution would still be "drug free" by her definition.

Roberto

And your statement was probably lost on her, no?

It WAS a good line, wasn't it? Totally by accident I have to admit.
