On page 71 of [i]The New Sotheby's Encyclopedia[i], I give this chateau a star and a special value rating (which is very good for a cru bourgeois under my rating system). The full text is as follows:

CHATEAU LE MEYNIEU
Vertheuil
AOC Haut-M‚doc
Cru Bourgeois

Under the same ownership as Chateau Lavillotte in St.-Estephe. The wine is not filtered before bottling.
RED The 1982 is a deep, dark, brooding wine of dense bouquet and solid fruit which promises well for the future.
<Grape varieties> Cabernet sauvignon 70%, Merlot 30%
<Optimal drinking> Between 7-15 years

END OF EXTRACT

If nothing else, quoting this has made me realise that there are a number of chateau profiles in this book that need updating. However, I can assure you that the quality has continued to improve and that the style quoted remains applicable for any of the best vintages since 1982. Thanks for the eye-opener and back to the grindstone!
