Old vs. New style Riojas

I'm afraid I don't recall a store in St. Louis with a huge Spanish selection. But, I didn't get into my Spanish stint until after I moved to Germany, so I wouldn't have noticed a nice selection even if there was one.

Definitely give Lukas Liquor a try. It's at Manchester and Clarkson. I can give you directions if you let me know which way you are coming from.
I'm not sure how extensive their Spanish selection, but I suspect it is quite good. In the past year or two I've found incredibly diverse European wines there. I believe they have a KC location as well, though I have not been there.

Well, I've been gone awhile. This was an interesting and entertaining read. Hope everyone is happy, well and ready for spring!
This all makes me curious about my 05/06 tempranillo I'm waiting on from T.J. and wondering if it may be dust and earth or fermented prunes? I tried a bottle early last year of the 05 and it was really tannic and apparently not really ready.

I am absolutely 100% positive. I am sitting on several cases of the 2005 Bodegas RODA Cirsion. I paid quite a bit for it, can't move it right now and want to clear it. Its been stored perfectly and it is the same high altitude tempranillo single vineyard unfiltered Cirsion that everyone knows. If you know someone in DC that can accept it, I will sell it to anyone on this board for the price I said. I think folks on this Board know I am not a kidder...

I'm currently on vacation with my wife and two great friends near Bodensee in deep south Germany. Thought this the perfect time to finally try the recommended Finca Allende and Alta Ardanza I've had stashed away.

I can see the draw of the new style Allende. It's full of flavor and very easy to drink. But, especially as the evening progressed, I found myself going back to the old style Ardanza. In my opinion, it's simply a more interesting wine. More layers of flavors, and subtler. It kept me asking questions, where as the Allende had nothing to hide.

Thanks to Mark for suggesting that I compare these two very nice bottles. This was one of my more educational tasting experiences. My company enjoyed it as well.
