i would be eating like pasta, like spagetti and meatballs, italian foods. etc.

OK, here as some easy ones to start with. Salice Salentino (getting very popular and is always less than $10); Barbera d'Asti; and Chianti and Chianti Classico. The cost of the Barbera & Chianti can go quite high. The lighter ones are the least costly ones. Don't pay more than $14 - $15.
