Marilyn Merlot

I have bought a bottle of "Marilyn Merlot" for the past few years as a Christmas gift for a friend. Assuming he decides to drink it, when will it reach its peak? What is the "shelf life" of this wine? Is it smarter to tell him to hold on to it as its value increases?
