Did anyone else here find Gallo of Sonoma cab more merlot like than their merlot? or are my taste buds still screwy? Be honest.

Summa, think you are confusing the lightness of the Sonoma bottling with the smoothness of most merlots. They don't tell much on their lables but could be that cute 'lil Gina blended some of that-there Merlot juice in the bottling. The main thing, did you enjoy the bottle? WW

I was just comparing their bottlings of cab and merlot side by side, and just found it a bit strange, in that in my experience, I expect a lot of fruitiness/jamminess in a merlot, and something more refined and structured in a cab.

The Gallo of sonoma Cabernet was very fruit forward, almost implying sweetness, and definitely enough fruit to cover the tannins.

The strange thing was, I could get a sense of this backbone more in their merlot, with a bit more of an herbal touch, (which brought to mind cabernet franc to me, as perhaps part of the blend).
