Quick Question?

I was wondering if a Pinot Noir needs to age much before opening? I know it is not nearly the full bodied wine that a cab is and was just curious? I tried the '98 Robert Mondavi Reserve last night and it was great. Dark fruit, some black cherry and plum and a hint of smoke. I know that the fruit is from the Carneros region which is well known for their exceptional Pinots. Seems like this wine could stand up to some aging though.

Quick answer -- it depends on the wine. I've had Pinots as old as 20 years that were still drinking well.....

emc. Again, go to the Pinot/Burgandy thread and read the posts for the last 100 days. You'll find tons of useful info. And for generalization, a well-made pinot like the Mondavi Reserve will normally show some improveement ove the first 5 years after harvest. WW
