Hi, I'm new to the board and fairly new to wines. I started with a wine that I liked alot, a so called dessert wine, but it seems to be getting too sweet for me. It's from a local winery, Wollersheim Winery here in Sauk City WI, I still like the flavor of the River Gold, but like I said, it's getting too sweet for me. I've tried some of thier other whites, but they do not have the flavor that the river gold does, "Delicate and sweet white with a hint of sweet pears and mangos on the finish." (taken from http://www.wollersheim.com/wine_list.asp" Looking to try some other wines, but afraid of spending alot on a bottle of wine and not liking it. Anyone able to help?

Hi Jareese, and welcome to Wine Board. For a white, look for a Riesling from Germany or Washington State. For now avoid those that say dry or troken on the label, you may grow into these later. For a red, look for a Beaujolais Villages.

Beaujolais Villages is usually not too dry or puckery--it is fruity and may make you think of strawberries or raspberries.

Don't apologize. At least you have a place to ask questions and get GOOD advice! When I started drinking wine it was a "taste and see" thing and I spent a bit of money in the process.

Tried the Louis Jadot Beaujolais-Villages tonite. (2003) Hmm.... Quite a bit dry"er" than I'm used to, a little bitter, but good. I thought it went better w/ my dinner than all by itself. I loved the "nose" of this wine, can't quite put into words the flavor that I had, but I'm quite new to this yet.. It was good. I'll be having some more.. Thank you for your advice!

Also had a White Merlot, WOW!! see other post labled as such.
